About the report

This report is intended to help L&D practitioners involved with mentoring programs benchmark their own efforts against those of their peers in similar organizations and close the gap between knowing your objective and measuring the effectiveness of your program.

The following are the biggest overall trends emerging from the survey:

  • “Leadership development” (49.5%) and “skill development” (47.1%) are the top two most frequently-reported objectives of mentoring programs. 
  • “Skills and competencies” (73.5%) was by far the most frequently reported matching criterion. 
  • “Feedback surveys” (75.2%) are the most frequently-reported means of measuring success.
  • “Success metrics and the evaluation process” (51.2%) is the most frequently-reported thing that respondents would most like to improve or change about their mentoring program.
